Cayetano group does “first wave” of relief aid

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - At least 200 sacks of rice and 3,000 food packs, each of  which is good for three days sustenance of a family, will be distributed today, starting at Isabel town and later at Merida, Matag-ob, Palompon, Calubian, Villaba and San Isidro---all in the northwestern part of Leyte.

This "first wave" of relief aid distribution, initiated by Senator Alan Peter Cayetano and Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano and executed by the Compañero Cayetano Tavang Volunteers (CCTV), will prioritize the first thousand of indigents identified by the mayor of each town.

Rey Martinez of CCTV said the relief aid is also conducted with the help of the Cebu Jaycees, headed by Ken Ngo, the United Waray-waray Inc., and the Team Kausaban sa Baybay of philanthropist Malot Galenzoga.

Martinez said the groups are now holding relief booths, in accepting donations, at Fuente Osmeña and IT Park in Cebu City. The donated goods will then be transported to Leyte for free via Roble Shipping.

Meanwhile, the Cayetano Medical Program resumes its medical mission on Nov. 18 for in-patients needing assistance for treatment and medicines. CCTV personnel are posted at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center where patients can avail of free medical services by showing only physician's prescription and medical abstract. — CONTRIBUTED ARTICLE (FREEMAN)
