Mabilog’s allies capture majority of barangays
ILOILO CITY, Philippines – Re-electionist barangay chairmen, publicly known to be allied with City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog garnered majority of the winning candidates in the Oct. 28 barangay elections.
Of the 180 villages in the city, 165 incumbents were re-elected to their posts, as 64 of them ran without opponents and only 15 were new winners.
Liga ng mga Barangay incumbent president Carlos Guarin, barangay chair of Aguinaldo in La Paz district, said the results showed that 176 winners for village head were identified with the Mabilog administration, leaving only four to the opposition.
Mabilog, who was challenged by defeated businessman Rommel Ynion in last May 13 elections, was impressed with the outcome of the barangay polls. He welcomed all winners for the new challenges ahead of them regardless of their political affiliation.
He said the election is over and all elected officials should do their responsibility as good leaders and public servants. —-(FREEMAN)
