Blast hurts worker

Danny B. Dangcalan - The Freeman

BACOLOD CITY Philippines  â€”  A man was injured after a makeshift firecracker factory located in a rural area in the eastern part of the city exploded last Sunday night.

Fire Officer Jane Hisona of the Bacolod Bureau of Fire Protection said the explosion occurred around 8:30 p.m. and destroyed a structure that served as a warehouse for firecrackers.

The injured factory worker who sustained minor wounds and burns was immediately rushed to the hospital.

Hisona said a very loud explosion was heard from Purok Lopez in Barangay Vista Alegre, which reverberated three kilometers away.

The warehouse is located away from the residential area, but it still caused panic from among the residents. The distance also did not make it easy for firefighters to immediately reach the area.

The cause of the explosion remained unknown as of yesterday.

The factory, owned by Amado Castejon, has been operating for the past five years.
