CEBU, Philippines - The Comelec in the island province of Siquijor expected about 5 percent increase in the number of registered voters for the barangay and SK elections in October 28, this year.
The Election Registration Board (ERB) of Siquijor recently convened for a hearing on the validity of the voter's registration of an estimated 1,500 new applicants, aged 18 and above.
Acting provincial election supervisor Jerome Brillantes, who was assigned in Dumaguete City in the last May 13 polls, said registration of around 4,000 youths, aged 15 to 17, will also be validated for the SK polls.
Election officers of the different towns in Siquijor attended the ERB hearing to review and validate the registration of new voters before this will be forwarded to the Comelec central office in Manila for approval.
Siquijor province has a total of 64,804 voters before the May 13 polls, and 56,996 of them had actually voted, Comelec records showed.
Brillantes meanwhile announced that candidates for various positions at the barangay and SK level shall file their certificates of candidacy from October 15 to 17. (FREEMAN)
