DOTC: New Bohol Airport done by 2015

Ric V. Obedencio - The Freeman

TAGBILARAN CITY, Philippines  â€“ The New Bohol Airport project, which has been conceived 22 years ago, will soon be materialized. “We can see it by third quarter of 2015,” thus assured Transportation and Communications Secretary Joseph Emilio “Jun” Abaya.

Abaya was in this city to grace the oath-taking and inauguration rites of re-elected Gov. Edgar Chatto, Vice Gov. Concepcion Lim, Rep. Rene Relampagos (1st dist), Rep. Erico Aristotle Aumentado (2nd dist) and Rep. Arthur Yap (3rd dist).

Abaya said the P7.14-billion project, with the blessing of President Aquino, will be the “key driver” of Bohol’s tourism industry, and that every tourist coming in here will mean a job for the Boholanos.

The project, situated over 220 hectares, is already in detailed stage and the bidding is on the process, he said, adding that the new airport will be equipped with modern facilities of international standards.

The project has been and is the product of constant coordination with his office and DOTC is committed to finish it, Abaya said. The DOTC earlier earmarked fund and set the bidding process for the fencing of the periphery of the entire airport site comprising at least three barangays of Panglao town.  (FREEMAN)
