Negros Oriental braces for massive power interruption

Judy Flores Partlow - The Freeman

DUMAGUETE CITY, Philippines – Many towns and cities in Negros Oriental being serviced by the two power distributors,  NORECO I and NORECO II, experienced several hours of power interruption yesterday (April 6) and then next weekend due to scheduled maintenance activities of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP).

NGCP, operator of the country’s power transmission highway, said the scheduled shutdown of some of its transmission facilities will be restored after work completion.

The shutdown yesterday was from 8 a.m. to 5 a.m. in parts of the NORECO II franchise area due to maintenance activity of the Amlan substation and along the Amlan-Siaton 69kV transmission line, said NGCP’s Elmer Cruz, corporate communications chief for the Visayas.

On April 13, another power outage is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with parts of the NORECO I and NORECO II franchise area to be affected by maintenance activity along the Amlan-Guihulngan 69kV transmission line.

A third shutdown schedule is set on April 14, (8 a.m. to 5 p.m.) in parts of the NORECO I and NORECO II franchise areas due to maintenance activity along the Mabinay-Bayawan 69kV transmission line.

NGCP in a statement sent earlier to the Diocesan Electoral Board of the Diocese of Dumaguete, said it was undertaking preventative maintenance work to ensure a stable and uninterrupted power supply during the May 13 elections.  (FREEMAN)
