Panay NPA leader arrested
CEBU, Philippines - A ranking leader of the New People’s Army was arrested Friday afternoon in Jaro, Iloilo City, a military official confirmed.
Bernabe Tubongbanua alias Maymay/Bimboy, a staff of the Regional Finance Bureau and intelligence officer of the Regional Organization Committee of NPA-Kometing Rehiyon Panay, was arrested by virtue of an arrest warrant for multiple murder with the use of unlicensed firearms.
Colonel Arnold Quiapo, commanding officer of the 301st Infantry Brigade, said that Tubongbanua is one of the suspects in the killing of Corporal Joebert Glendro of the Philippine Army’s 3rd Infantry Division last March 2011 at Brgy. Camburanan, Tapaz, Capiz.
Joint military and police operatives seized explosives and documents of high intelligence value from Tubongbanua.
Quiapo confirmed that Tubongbanua is involved in extorting money from different private companies in Western Visayas. (FREEMAN)
