12 contingents vie in Kasadyahan Fest 2013

May Joven - The Freeman

ILOILO CITY, Philippines — Twelve contingents coming from the different provinces in Western Visayas performed yesterday (Jan. 26) for the championship in the 2013 Kasadyahan Festival competition.

The competing contingents are Tribu Salakayan of Miag-ao, Iloilo; Tribu Mandaragat (San Jose de Buenavista, Antique); Tribu Pahinis de Laua-an (Laua-an, Antique); Tribu Padagyaw (Dumarao, Capiz); Tribu Saludan (Tigbauan, Iloilo); Hubon Saranggola sa Manggahan and Hubon Binagtong sa Manggahan (Guimaras province), Tribu Hugyaw (St. Therese MTC Colleges); Tribu Kaing (Leon, Iloilo); Tribu Bayluhay (San Joaquin, Iloilo); Tribu Olalong (Cabalum Western College); and Tribu Hugyaw Kansilay (Silay City, Negros Occidental).

The Kasadyahan Festival has become the festival of festivals in the region since last year (2012) considering that this has been a competition of winners from different festivals in provinces and towns in Western Visayas.

This year, participants’ performances depicted the lives of the people in the region, their struggle to improve their way of living, their devotion to the Señor Santo Niño and best features of their respective place.

The participants would be judged according to their performance in the area and street dancing. For the performance area, they will be judged according to choreography (suitability of the dance movements to the concept), performance, theme/concept and production design while in the street dancing, they will be judged on endurance, choreography, performance and costume.

Winners of the Kasadyahan Festival will be announced after the Dinagyang Ati-Ati Festival today (Jan. 27).

There will be five top winners together with other awards—best in street dance, best in performance, best in choreography, best in music, best in costume and best in choreographer. (FREEMAN)
