SAN JOSE, ANTIQUE, Philippines – Senior Supt. Pedrito Delos Reyes assumed the post of provincial director of the Antique Provincial Police Office (APPO) in simple rites held here on Wednesday.

Delos Reyes took over the post from officer-in-charge Marloe Marfil who temporarily replaced former APPO director Sr. Supt. Ruperto Floro who was assigned to Camp Martin Delgado regional headquarters earlier, said a PNA report yesterday.

Delos Reyes, a native of Miag-ao town in Iloilo, was chief of police of Pateros City in Metro Manila prior to his new assignment.

He also joined the United Nations peace-keeping missions in East Timor in 2001-2001 and in Kosovo in 2003. He again joined the peace mission to East Timor in 2005. He has attended an anti-terrorism training in Germany and training on Aviation Security in Kuala Lumpur , Malaysia.

The new APPO director hoped to see the end of rebel atrocities in Antique, explaining the importance of PNP cooperation with the Philippine Army.

“Meanwhile, with the upcoming election, we will focus on implementing the gun ban rules of the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) which will start on Jan. 13,” Delos Reyes said.

Antique Governor Exequiel Javier, San Jose Mayor Rony Molina, representatives of Police Regional Office-6 director Chief Supt.  Agrimero Cruz, Jr. and the chiefs of police of the different municipal PNP stations in the province attended the turnover ceremony.

“Peace and freedom is vital for the progress of the province and I’m impressed with your vast experience and trainings in various areas of police work,” Javier said in his speech. “I expect the police to enforce the law with justice and compassion,” he added. —From the wires (FREEMAN)
