Fireman shoots trike driver dead

Danny B. Dangcalan - The Freeman

BACOLOD CITY , Philippines  — Instead of thanking the trisikad (pedicab) driver who helped him stand up when he fell, an ungrateful fireman shot him dead instead.

The police are readying murder charges against Fire Officer I Isaac Cabana, who shot dead Jose Cordova, last Wednesday afternoon, when the latter tried to help him get up when he fell on the pavement, Senior Supt. Ricardo dela Paz, Bacolod City police director, said yesterday.

Police Officer 3 Johnny dela Pena, case investigator, said Cabana lost control of his bicycle at the intersection of Galo and San Juan Sts., and when Cordova helped him up, he shot him with a .45 caliber pistol.

Cordova was believed to be drunk when the incident happened, investigation showed.  (FREEMAN)
