Phl Marines conducting recruitment

Syril G. Repe - The Freeman

DUMAGUETE CITY , Philippines —Officials of the Philippine Marines are now in Dumaguete to conduct recruitment activities of would-be members to the Marine Corps.

Technical/Sgt Josefino Dionson, from the Philippine Marine headquarters, told The Freeman that the current drive of the Philippine Navy and the Marines is to balance their strengths by region, aside from giving employment opportunities for the people of Negros.

Dionson said the Philippine Marines also need highly-skilled individuals and not just pure combatants.

Pre-screening of applicants are conducted at the Negros Oriental State University (NORSU) main campus, and the exams will be in February next year for pre-screened applicants.

Applicants who passed the February exams will undergo training at the Phl Marines’ base in Ternate, Cavite.

The recruitment quota for Negros Oriental is 60 to 90, preferably highly-skilled applicants such as mechanics, with knowledge in electronics, information technology and the like.

Other recruitment activities are being conducted also in Iloilo and Bacolod cities and in Negros Occidental and Palawan provinces.

Qualified to apply are those aging 18-23 years old, single, at least 5’4” in height, preferably highly-skilled with at least 72 units in college. However, high school graduates may also apply provided they bring along with them TESDA certifications.  (FREEMAN)
