DUMAGUETE CITY, Philippines— Superintendent James Goforth yesterday assumed the post as the new chief of police of this city after a simple turnover of command ceremony held at the Dumaguete Police Station
Goforth effectively replaced Chief Insp. Eduardo Oira, the OIC-police chief, during the turnover rites, attended by Negros Oriental Provincial Police director, Sr. Supt. Edward Carranza, City Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria, councilors, representatives from the City Prosecutors Office and the business sector, among others.
In his speech, Goforth who once served as operations chief of Mandaue City Police Office, said he is committed to keeping peace and order in Dumaguete, by sustaining the best police practices, enhancing trust and confidence with clean and competent police officers.
Goforth, pledged to fight against all forms criminality, to safeguard the people, deliver quality public service and strengthen enforcement and prosecution against those not willing to work. He urged everyone to help the Dumaguete Police achieved its goals under his command.
Sagarbarria, for his part, welcomed Goforth to the post and tasked the latter to strengthen the fight against illegal drugs, illegal gambling and other forms of criminality in the city.
He also vowed that the city government will continue to help the City Police achieve its goals in terms of logistics support. — (FREEMAN)
