TAGBILARAN CITY  , Philippines — Here’s good news to bookworms and Boholanos alike.

The Bohol Provincial Library and Information Center (BPLIC) clinched the second prize in the search for the 2012 Most Outstanding Provincial Libraries in the Philippines, according to Bohol provincial librarian Erlinda Rule.

Rule, who represented the provincial library, said she received the prize of plaque and P10,000 cash during the awarding ceremony held at the National Library Auditorium in Manila last Nov. 5.

The Quezon Provincial Library won the first prize, of plaque and P12,000 cash, while the Pangasinan Provincial Library got the third prize, of plaque and P7,000 cash.

Six finalists were chosen out of the 12 entries vying for the prestigious award for libraries nationwide, said Rule.

The National Commission on Cultural Affairs, National Library of the Philippines, National Committee on Library and Information, Public Libraries Division and Philippine Librarians Association Inc. (PLAI) sponsored the event.

The conduct of the search in the annual celebration of Library and Information Services Month in November “aims to focus on the invaluable services that libraries render to their clientele and to recognize the librarians to make them more cognizant, zealous, committed and dedicated to their functions and responsibilities,” said the event organizers.  (FREEMAN)
