- Danny B. Dangcalan - The Philippine Star

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines  — The provincial government of Negros Occidental and six of its cities and 11 of its towns were conferred with the Seal of Good Housekeeping (SGH) for 2011 Award by the DILG last week.

The DILG awarded P7 million to the provincial government, P3 million each to the six cities, and P1 million each to the 11 towns, as performance challenge funds, said DILG-6 regional director Evelyn Trompeta.

The awardees were the cities of Victorias, Talisay, Bago, Cadiz, Sagay and Silay; and the towns of Pulupandan, La Castellana, Pontevedra, Moises Padilla, Don Salvador Benedicto, Manapla, Isabela, Toboso, Murcia, E. B. Magalona and Hinigaran.

Trompeta, who led the distribution of SGH markers to the awardees at the Capitol, said recipients of the SGH awards are local government units found to be transparent and accountable, having complied with the DILG’s full disclosure policy, and those who have no adverse Commission on Audit findings.

She added that the SGH is a program initiated by the late DILG Secretary Jesse Robredo to ensure transparency and accountability among LGUs. (FREEMAN)
