Leptospirosis kills 11 in Negros Occidental
BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — At least 11 persons died of leptospirosis in Negros Occidental from January to August this year, a report of the Provincial Health Office (PHO) said.
There were two deaths each in Bago City and Valladolid town, and one each in Binalbagan, Cauayan and Moises Padilla towns and the cities of Cadiz, Sagay, Talisay and Victorias, the PHO report also show.
The fatalities were 15 percent of the 74 cases admitted to different public and private hospitals in Negros Occidental, provincial health officer Ernell Tumimbang disclosed in the report.
Bago City and Murcia town topped the list, with eight cases each, Cadiz City had seven, E. B. Magalona town and Sagay City had six each, and Silay City had four.
This number of cases this year is three percent higher than last year’s, with 72 cases and 10 fatalities, over the same period, the PHO report added. - THE FREEMAN
