- Ric V. Obedencio - The Philippine Star

TAGBILARAN CITY, Philippines  — The Bohol Island State University (BISU) contingent clinched the top prize of P200,000 plus trophy for the street dancing competition of the month-long 2012 Sandugo (Blood Compact) celebration. It also won the Best in Instrumentation award.

The street dancers of Catigbian town settled for second place, while taking the Best in Production Number award, during the rain drenched and jam-packed Pres. Carlos P. Garcia sports complex. Mayor Bert Salinas, who watched his dancers, received the P150,000 cash and trophy prizes.

Contingents of Holy Name University (HNU) and Garcia-Hernandez town ended third and fourth place, respectively, each receiving cash and trophy.

This year’s mardi gras had only four contingents participating, as the towns of Ubay and Carmen, last year’s grand champion, pulled out in the last minute. There was no word yet given why their non-participation.

The event was however a star-studded one, graced by movie and TV personalities from GMA-7, Senator Chiz Escudero and Valenzuela City Mayor Sherwin Gatchalian, who all joined the parade that was also attended by Governor Edgar Chatto and Idy Cagas, the Ms. Bohol Sandugo 2012 and her “royal court.”
