BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — There were eight members of the New People’s Army who have returned to the fold of the law last week, the military said.
Colonel Oscar Lactao, commander of the 303rd Infantry Brigade, said the surrender of more NPA members from the northern and the southern Negros to the military has brought the total number to 62 surrenderees.
Lactao said his command will present the eight surrenderees to Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. early next month for livelihood and financial assistance.
Meanwhile, Lactao said the 303rd IB is marking its anniversary on July 1, but the program will be held on June 30, a Saturday. It will be a double celebration because the 303rd was recently awarded the Best Brigade in Western Visayas. It will be vying for the national title also, he said.
The celebration will start with a Mass in the morning, a wreath-laying ceremony, and awarding of outstanding military members and civilians. - THE FREEMAN
