E. Visayas towns each get P1M Performance Challenge Fund

PALO, LEYTE, Philippines — Seven local government units in Eastern Visayas received Performance Challenge Fund of P1 million each from Secretary Jesse Robredo last June 11, during the Tapatan on Disaster Preparedness and Management in Eastern Visayas held at the DPWH Multi-Purpose Hall.

The local government units are recipients of the second round of assessment for the Seal of Good Housekeeping in Easterm Visayas, said DILG-7 regional director Pedro Noval, Jr.

Noval identified the LGUs as Alang-Alang, Burauen, Jaro, all in Leyte province; Naval in Biliran province; Hinunangan in Southern Leyte; Guiuan in Eastern Samar; and Laoang in Northern Samar, all of which were stamped with the seal for their good housekeeping or excellent performance in good governance.

The checks were personally received by the mayors of these recipient LGUs.

The Seal of Good Housekeeping for LGUs is in line with DILG’s commitment to elevate the practice of governance that values transparency, accountability, participation and performance into an institutionalized status.

The Seal is given to LGUs that have excelled in key government areas such as planning, fiscal management, transparency and accountability, and valuing performance management.

The project aims to further enhance governance and promote transparency and accountability in local government operations. — THE FREEMAN
