Mirasol gets support in his campaign sorties for special poll

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — Binalbagan town Mayor Alejandro Mirasol got “very enthusiastic, spontaneous, and very warm welcome” during his campaign sorties in La Castellana and Moises Padilla towns, according to Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr.

Marañon, who accompanied Mirasol’s stumps, said many people had attended the campaign sorties. The campaign period started May 17 and will end midnight of May 31.

Mirasol, of the Liberal Party, is running for congressman in a special election in the 5th District on June 2. He is opposed by his nephew, Provincial Board Member Emilio Yulo III of the Nacionalista Party.

The governor said that in Moises Padilla, Yulo was near the venue of Mirasol’s sortie and he even asked Yulo to speak in the same stage with Mirasol but Yulo declined.

Mirasol was endorsed by the United Negros Alliance (UNA), the chairman of which is Marañon, who earlier said he was confident that Mirasol will win over Yulo, with a “5,000 lead.”

Las Pinas Rep. Cynthia Villar, whose husband Senator Manny Villar is NP president, said they are supporting Yulo as their partymate.

Villar, who visited Maranon at the Capitol yesterday, said Yulo has requested from NP the appointment of watchers in the June 2 special poll.

Meanwhile, Mirasol said Monday that Malacañang will give P21 million worth of projects to the different barangays in the 5th district once he gets elected congressman, This will be distributed to the towns immediately after the polls, he said. —- (FREEMAN)
