ILOILO CITY, Philippines — The Provincial Health Office (PHO) has recorded 219 cases of dengue hemorrhagic fever with four deaths from Jan. 1 to May 5 this year, more than double the 115 cases and one death during the same period last year.
An additional 35 new cases were recorded since May 6 with 15 being admitted in hospitals as of Thursday, according to Dr. Socorro Quinion in a PNA report online.
An alarm was already raised in Barangay Bakong, Dumangas where 17 cases were listed in just a period of six weeks with two patients being admitted.
The PHO also monitored clustering cases in Barangay Balabago in Pavia were two cases with one death were recorded. It further recorded 561 cases with eight fatalities last year.
Quinion said dengue cases may continue to rise in number especially with the onset of the rainy season. (FREEMAN)
