Policewomen's help sought in women's rights campaign
KALIBO, AKLAN, Philippines — As the world celebrates Mother’s Day, AGHAM partylist Rep. Angelo Palmones urged policewomen to campaign for women’s rights, according to a PNA report yesterday.
In a text message, Palmones said policewomen in the country are being considered heroes silently working for the protection of women and children. They are often stationed in the so-called Women’s and Children’s Desk of the Philippine National Police, he said.
“Many women are abused because they do not know their rights. Our policewomen are credible and should be in the forefront of educating the women about their concerns,” said Palmones, who was once a mediaman before joining politics.
AGHAM partylist is planning to send speakers here for policewomen to become effective communicators of women’s rights.
For several years, policewomen in the province have been working actively as women and children have become victims of the thriving tourism industry of Boracay Island, he said. (FREEMAN)
