Trillanes: EDSA still "unfinished struggle"

- Ric V. Obedencio -

TAGBILARAN CITY, Philippines  – Senator Antonio Trillanes III has described the EDSA “People’s Power” celebration an unfinished struggle towards change in governance.

“Sa totoo lang, hindi pa tapos ang laban tungo sa pagbabago,” said the senator yesterday in an exclusive interview with The FREEMAN at the Dumaluan Beach Resort in Panglao town where he was welcomed by former town mayor Dr. Doloreich Dumaluan.

Even if the late President Cory Aquino, mother of incumbent President P.Noy has started it (EDSA) but “we have backslid” many times. “We have stepped backward,” said the senator.

“EDSA revolution is just a symbol” that once in history people got together to change government for a change of the country, he said.

EDSA is an acronym of Epifanio DeLos Santos Avenue where the people massed into what is now popularly called the People Power in February 1986 that eventually toppled the despotic President Ferdinand Marcos.

Asked what he can suggest to P.Noy, Trillanes said the president should stick to his mission. “He (P-Noy) should constantly remind himself kung bakit siya tumakbo ng pagka-pangulo at ngayong panalo na siya huwag niyang kalimutan ang kadahilanan na ‘yon. Maraming kababayan ang umaasa sa kanya.”

The senator described P.Noy as being on the right track as far as getting rid of corruption in government and in reforming the Armed Forces of the Philippines are concerned.

“In other aspects of governance, such as in economic development and poverty alleviation, P.Noy has so much work to do because these are matters that affect the lives of the people,” said Trillanes.

Trillanes earlier met and graced the gathering of the would-be members of what he called Samahang Magdalo-Tagbilaran chapter with provincial coordinator Jerry Pabe at Barangay Cogon hall in this city. (FREEMAN)
