5,840 sheep arrive in Bacolod

BACOLOD CITY ,Philippines  — A total of 5,840 heads of sheep, purchased by the Negros Occidental provincial government from Australia, have recently arrived at the BREDCO port in this city.

The flock of sheep, estimated to cost about P80 million, will be quarantined for 30 days at the NEGROS FIRST Ranch in Brgy. Santa Rosa of Murcia town, to stabilize their strength and health before they are distributed to the raisers and beneficiaries, Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. said.

Marañon earlier said Negros Occidental bought these sheep in its bid to become the Sheep Capital of the Philippines.

To administer the dispersal of the sheep, the governor has formed the Livestock Marketing and Dispersal Committee, which he heads, consisting of assistant provincial legal officer Mary Ann Manayon-Lamis, provincial administrator Enrique Pinongan, provincial accountant Lucille Pines and provincial veterinarian Renante Decena.
