Iloilo Police wants to revoke gun licenses of ex-mayor
BANATE, ILOILO, Philippines – Iloilo Police provincial director Sr. Supt. Gil Lebin said his office is now checking the records of former Mayor Carlos Cabangal, Jr. of this town with the Firearms and Explosives Division at Camp Crame for possible revocation of the latter’s gun licenses.
“We would then request for the revocation not only of his permit to carry firearm outside of residence (PTCFOR) but also all the gun licenses issued to him,” Lebin said.
For now, the police could not surmise how many firearms were licensed to the former mayor, he said adding that Cabangal’s involvement in the illegal discharge of firearm was enough for the police to request for the revocation.
Last week, Cabangal, 51, using his .45 caliber Colt Mark IV pistol (SN 1801031), shot HPQ Bus driver, Rolando Adriatico, 42, following a traffic altercation at Brgy. Dangulaan in Anilao town, Iloilo, Friday noon when the bus almost hit the former mayor’s driven car.
Witnesses claimed that the former mayor, in an apparent fit of rage, pulled a gun and shot Adriatico once, hitting the latter in his right arm. Cabangal immediately surrendered to the police after the incident.
No criminal charges were however filed against Cabangcal after his camp reached an amicable settlement with the HPQ Bus management. - THE FREEMAN
