HS student shot inside campus

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines – A third year high school student was shot in the head by his schoolmate inside their campus at the Brgy. Singcang-Airport National High School in this city last Thursday afternoon, and is now in serious condition, police said yesterday.

The victim, whose identity the police withheld, is now confined at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital in Bacolod, with the bullet still in his head, said Insp. Jovy Cabcaban of the Bacolod City Police Women’s and Children’s Complaints Desk.

Attending physicians told the victim’s family that the boy might die if the bullet is removed in his head at this time, Cabcaban said.

Cabcaban said the police will file charges for frustrated homicide against the 17-year-old suspect, who was a second year transferee student in the same school.

Although the suspect was a minor, Cabcaban said they will leave it to the Prosecutor’s Office to discern the case, while they were waiting for the affidavit of the victim’s father, she said.

Police investigators said the suspect came to school with two unidentified companions, and were supposedly looking for another student. When the victim intervened, one of the adult companions boxed him.

When he tried to retaliate, the suspect took out an improvised shotgun (sulpak), and shot him in the head, Cabcaban said.

The suspect and his companions immediately fled, leaving behind the knapsack where the firearm and a bladed weapon were placed, Cabcaban said.

The security guard told the police that he did not see the gun and the bladed weapon of the suspect and his adult companions when they entered the campus, she said.

Operatives of WCCD and Police Station 8 have gone to the suspect’s residence but he was not there, Cabcaban added. (FREEMAN)
