Nursing grad, who got injured for fighting off snatcher, dies

- Danny B. Dangcalan -

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines  — A Nursing graduate died in a hospital, five days after being in comatose as a result of hitting her head on the pavement while fighting a snatcher, police said.

The victim was identified as Riem Love Villaflor Anquillano, 22, of Escalante City in Negros Occidental, and a Nursing graduate of Riverside College in Bacolod.

Case investigator PO3 Benjamin Jamora said Anquillano was scheduled to take the board examinations in December.

Investigation showed that Anquillano was walking along 17th Street at about 6 p.m. Saturday on her way home to the Palma Dormitory along the same street.

She was with her friend Mergelyn Losaria, after their review class, when two men riding in tandem on a red motorcycle came and one of them suddenly snatched Anquillano’s bag.

She resisted and fought back, but fell and her head hit the pavement as a result, Jamora said.

Losaria rushed Anquillano to the Pablo O. Torre Memorial Hospital while the suspects fled.

Losaria however said she could not describe the face of the snatcher who was wearing a helmet, said Jamora.

Police Station 2 chief, Sr. Insp. Lester Leada, admitted yesterday that they were facing a blank wall on the identities of the suspects.  (FREEMAN)
