Brgy school wins 2011 most eco-friendly award

BACOLOD CITY ,Philippines  — The Iliranan Elementary School in the outlying, mountain barangay of Codcod in San Carlos City bested all elementary schools in the country to win the 2011 Most Sustainable and Eco-Friendly Schools award for the elementary school category.

San Carlos City is about 190 kilometers in the northern part of Negros Occidental from Bacolod via coastal road, while Brgy. Codcod is an hour ride via habal-habal from San Carlos' city proper.

Iliranan Elementary School, for winning the national award, received a plaque, certificate of recognition, P50,000 cash and a bag of information and educational materials.

San Carlos City Mayor Gerardo Valmayor Jr., Schools Division assistant superintendent Alan Yap, district supervisor Marilyn Cabatuan, 12 teachers from Iliranan ES and Marietta Lomocso of the San Carlos City Solid Waste Management Office attended the awarding ceremonies held in Manila last November 16.

DepEd-6 regional director Mildred Garay and EMB-6 head Amy Guillergan also witnessed the awarding ceremonies.
