BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — Close to 11,000 people in 10 barangays were affected by a flash flood that hit La Carlota City and the towns of Pontevedra and San Enrique in Negros Occidental at 1 a.m. yesterday, November 8.
A report from the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office said a total of 2,178 families were affected by the flashflood with San Enrique town, the hardest hit with five barangays: Bagonawa, Sibucao, Baliwagan, Guintorilan and Batuan.
No one was reported evacuated in San Enrique because the floodwater here had subsided although the 2,075 families, having a total of 10,375 dependents were affected.
Pontevedra had two barangays flooded affecting 82 families having 328 dependents. Only one house was totally damaged.
In La Carlota City, three barangays were flooded, 21 families affected with 91 dependents. Two families evacuated to the Barangay Hall while 19 families sought refuge at Barangay 2 Youth Center.
Evacuated families have already returned to their homes as of 9 a.m. yesterday when the floodwater subsided.
