Bohol mediamen join "rainforestation"
SIKATUNA, BOHOL ,Philippines — Members of the Bohol Tri-media Association (BTMA) and the Kapisanan ng Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) took time out last Sunday to plant trees as their contribution to the so-called rainforestation efforts of this landlocked town, about 18 kilometers from Tagbilaran City.
Some 500 seedlings of various varieties, supplied by the DENR office in Bohol, were planted in barangay Cambuac Sur, which was once a favorite "slash-and-burn" site, said OIC Prov’l environment and natural resources officer Nestor Canda.
BTMA president, veteran news broadcaster Fred Araneta of DyRD-AM and past BTMA president Lito Responte of DyTR-AM, who led the tree-planting activity, said the activity was worthwhile for the mediamen in sharing their efforts to the rainforestation of this side of the province.
They also vowed to continue the activity, including mangrove tree planting soon.
Mayor Jose Ellorimo, for his part, lauded and thanked the members of the BTMA and KBP in Bohol that have been advocating for natural environment preservation and protection.
