Boy, 16, stabs bizman dead

- Danny B. Dangcalan -

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines  — A 43-year-old businessman was stabbed dead by a 16-year-old boy who saw him with his girlfriend walking along Cuadra St, near the public plaza Wednesday night.

Chief Insp. Ulysses Ortiz, chief of the Police Station 1, identified the victim as Jimmy Uy, of Narra Extension in Brgy. Villamonte of this city, and owner of a rice retailing store at the Bacolod Central Market.

Uy sustained stab wounds in his neck and abdomen and was rushed to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital in Bacolod, where he was declared dead on arrival, Ortiz said.

Initial investigation by PO1 Roy Pastro showed that while Uy was reportedly walking with the suspect's alleged girlfriend along the street, the suspect approached them and stabbed the businessman who still tried to wrest off the weapon from the assailant.

The boy, who was a resident of Fortune Towne Subdivision, was arrested at Lacson Street the following morning in a follow-up operation by policemen led by PO3 Glenn Kho.

The boy, who got a cut on his palm during the scuffle with the victim, is now confined at the same hospital while charges for homicide will be filed against him, Ortiz said. (FREEMAN)
