Helper found dead with 13 stab wounds

- Jennifer P. Rendon -

ILOILO CITY, Philippines — A housemaid was found bathed in her own blood on the hallway of her employer's house at Candido Subdivision in Brgy. South Fundidor of Molo district in this city.

The stab-riddled body of Joanne Cajulisa, 30, a native of Igbaras, Iloilo, was discovered by her employer, Jaimi Macawili lying face down and had no underwear.

The Molo Police Station said Macawili immediately called out a neighbor for help and telephoned the police for assistance.

Shortly after, the responding policemen brought the victim to the Iloilo Doctors' Hospital where medical personnel tried to revive Cajulisa but she died an hour later.

Chief Insp. Jay Malong, Molo Police station chief, said no one lived with Cajulisa and the 62-year-old Macawili, whose wife was in Manila working.

Macawili, a retired Bureau of Customs employee, told police investigators that he left the house at around 6 a.m. to hear mass, while neighbors said they last saw Cajulisa alive at around 8 a.m.

When Macawili arrived at around 9:30 a.m., he saw the blooded Cajulisa prompting him to shout for help.

The house, particularly the man's bedroom, was already in disarray. Macawili claimed to have lost a .45 caliber pistol, P30,000 cash and a gold ring.

Malong said he already asked the Firearms and Explosives Unit of the PNP to check if a gun was licensed under Macawili's name.

For now, Malong said they are investigating all people, including Macawili, who could have seen the victim before she was stabbed.

Cajulisa had been working in the Macawili household for more than five years, and had endeared herself to the couple who in turn let her take up a diploma course at the St. Augustine School of Nursing in La Paz district.

An autopsy was already conducted to ascertain the cause Cajulisa's death and if she was raped before she was killed.
