In Bohol, Dengue cases down by 93%

TAGBILARAN CITY, Philippines – Efforts in preventing the dreaded dengue caused by Aegis egypti mosquito have paid off when the number of dengue cases were reduced to 93 percent from last year’s figures.

Provincial health officer Reymoses Cabagnot said a total of 93 cases with two deaths were documented from January 1 to August 6 compared to the same period last year, based on the reports from various disease reporting units (DRUs).

Last year, the province posted a total of 1,347 cases with nine deaths and a total of 290 with six deaths in 2009, PHO said. This year’s two fatalities came from this city and Mabini town.

The towns of Dauis and Talibon posted nine cases each, the highest in the list through the period.

The town of Loon had eight cases; this city has seven; Carmen and Maribojoc, six each; Getafe and Pilar, five each; Jagna, four; Panglao, Lila, Sierra-Bullones and Ubay, three each; and Anda, Baclayon and Valencia, two each.

The towns of Alburquerque, Batuan, Bilar, Candijay, Catigbian, Clarin, Corella, Danao. Garcia-Hernandez, Guindulman, Loay, Loboc, Sagbayan and Trinidad had one each. –THE FREEMAN
