Youth leaders in Negros Oriental donate 165 computers

CEBU, Philippines - The Sangguniang Kabataan Federation of Negros Oriental, headed by Scott Wayne Husain, donated 165 computer sets to newly opened schools and to the province’s Alternative Learning System. The project was worth P2 million.

ALS supervisor Dr. Elsa Orlina said that since 2009 they have wanted to put up e-Learning Centers, with at least three computers, but lack of resources constrained them to open even one.

“We waited for three years, and here we are, it’s not only one center but we will be opening three e-Learning Centers. We are very grateful to our SK Federation,” said Orlina, adding that at least 7,000 learners would benefit from the donated computers.

The ALS is a free education program providing opportunity for out-of-school youths, secondary and elementary school drop-outs, farmers, factory workers, laborers, and the physically challenged to get a high school diploma.

Representative Josy Limkaichong (1st district, Negros Or.) was glad to see the direction that the federation of young leaders was taking.

She told them: “You are making a significant step in changing the landscape of the Negros Oriental public educational system ...I will continue to journey with you in your endeavor to make education be better for the next generation to come. This is just the beginning of your commitment to nation building.”

The computerization program of the SKF-Negros Oriental will complement the DepEd Computerization Program and DTI’s Personal Computers for Public Schools program. (FREEMAN)
