Negros Occ gov, 4 mayors among Sandugo awardees

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines - Governor Alfredo Maranon Jr., four mayors and 58 barangay captains of Negros Occidental are among the National Sandugo Award recipients who will be honored during the awarding rites at the Diamond Hotel in Manila on July 26.

Other awardees are Mayors Evelio Leonardia of Bacolod City, Agustin Ernesto Bascon of Himamaylan City, Lawrence Marxlen de la Cruz of Don Salvador Benedicto town, and Alejandro Mirasol of Binalbagan town.

Fifty-eight barangay captains from different cities in this province are also among the awardees. 

The annual Sandugo award is given by the Department of Health to local chief executives who have shown support and commitment to the National Voluntary Blood Services Program.

July is celebrated in the country as the National Blood Donor's Month.

One of the highlights of the monthlong observance is the National Sandugo Awarding Ceremonies for Outstanding Local Government Executives in recognition of their important role in providing safe and adequate supply of blood to patients through advocacy, commitment and retention of blood donors in their locality, and their continuous support to the voluntary blood donation program.

In celebration of this, the Provincial Health Office will also hold its culmination activity for the Blood Donors' Month along with the Provincial Sandugo Outstanding Local Government Executive Awards today (Friday)at 1:30 p.m., at the Grand Ballroom of the Sugarland Hotel, with the theme "Kabuhi Siguraduhon….Pagpa-ambit sang Dugo Pabakuron. — THE FREEMAN
