Woman dies in quake

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines – A 53-year-old woman died of heart attack when an earthquake at 6.2 magnitude struck southern Negros Occidental early morning Tuesday.

Divina Galvez, of Brgy. Su-ay in Himamaylan City, panicked when she felt the tremor, said Adonis Belnas of the Provincial Disaster Management Division (PDMD) of Negros Occidental yesterday.

The exact time of her death was not immediately known but the Himamaylan City Rescue Team reported her death to the PDMD at 7:13 a.m. Tuesday, Belnas said.

Himamaylan City is between Kabankalan City, where an Intensity 5 was felt, and Binalbagan town, where an Intensity 4 was felt.

The PDMD reported yesterday that everything is back to normal yesterday in Sipalay and other areas in southern Negros where quakes hit.

So far, there have been more than 30 aftershocks, and the Negros-Sulu Trench is still moving, Phivolcs said yesterday. - THE FREEMAN
