ILOILO CITY, Philippines — The 802nd Disaster Risk Reduction Unit (802nd DRRU) of the Navy Rescue Group spearheaded the initiative to make all Saturdays of every month starting this June until December as "Away Dengue" Day.
The move has already obtained the support of a local media outlet, the Department of Health, local officials here and the Bayanihang Bayan Volunteers (BBV) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
BBV has around 90 individual members and four bigger groups including the 802nd DRRU to work for the campaign.
The campaign was conducted successfully last year and by this year, the rescue group has identified 30 barangays in various districts of the city, while the volunteers group will choose four more barangays.
Recipient barangays are among those with high cases of dengue last year. The monthly clean up drive will cover the following barangays:
For June---Guzman Jesena, Balabago, Tabuc Suba and San Juan; for July---Bakhaw, Calumpang, Sto. Nino, Bo. Obrero and Baldoza; for August---Quintin Salas, M.H Del Pilar, San Isidro and Airport; for September---Bonifacio Tanza, Dolonan, Sta. Cruz and Dungon; for October---Bolilao, Q. Abeto, Pali, Cuartero and Rizal; for November---North Fundidor, Navais, Veterans Village and Lopez Jaena; and for December---San Jose, Gustilo, Progreso and Tacas. (FREEMAN)
