Iloilo Police to enforce smoking ban in schools
ILOILO CITY, Philippines — Authorities here are set to implement strictly Republic Act 9211 or the Anti-Smoking Act during opening of classes in June.
City Police director Sr. Supt. Marieto Valerio said the police would carry out this smoking ban, with the help of other government agencies such as the Department of Health, Department of Trade and Industry and Department of Education.
Under this law, a person who is below 18 years is prohibited to smoke, especially inside the school campus.
Valerio said there are many children who are already used to smoking and this situation must be monitored strictly.
While the Iloilo City Anti-Smoking Task Force strengthens the campaign against smoking in public places and vehicles, the police will establish police assistance desk in particular places including schools, he said.
On peace and order maintenance during class opening, Valerio said the City Police has already coordinated with Barangay Peace Keeping Action Team, Barangay Tanod, Bantay Bayan, Communication Group and other civilian volunteer organizations. (FREEMAN)
