ILOILO CITY, Philippines -- After a grenade was lobbed and exploded at his house last week, Land Transportation Office-6 director told The FREEMAN and the City Police that he continued to receive death threats through text messages.
Camiña informed ICPO director Sr. Supt. Marietto Valerio, Sr. that the last text message he got was at around 8:30 a.m. yesterday.
It stated in Hiligaynon (translated into English): "Cam(i)ña, another grenade will explode. By this time, blood will spill. We just don't know if it's yours (blood) or your stupid men. Just continue seizing carplates. You're creating annoyance because you're not going proper enforcement. Do the right enforcement explosion because the law doesn't state that you are authorize to seize carplates. Stupid, abusive, and thief!"
The text message, like before, also came from mobile phone number 0910-5319269.
This new development strengthened Camiña's belief that the threats have been work-related, although he could not ascertain yet on who or what group could be responsible for this.
Valerio surmised though that it is still possible that the perpetrators may just be diverting the ongoing police investigation. "Pero may nasabi sa akin tungkol sa isang tao na hindi niya napagbigyan ni director. We are now exploring that angle," he said.
Camiña did not elaborate about his deals with this person except that the latter has the capability to launch attacks against the director.
Investigators have been looking further into the motive of power struggle at the LTO-6, following reports that someone from the agency wanted Camiña's post, but then this person has seemingly no intention to physically harm Camiña or his family, and neither has he the capability to violently harass the director.
"Right now, we are exploring every angle to the case," Valerio said, adding that he told Camiña to be wary of his personal safety while investigation is going on. (FREEMAN)
