Performance evaluation nationwide: 7 Negros Occidental school divisions in bottom 40
BACOLOD CITY , Philippines — Seven out of nine schools divisions in Negros Occidental have fallen into the Bottom 40 or poorly performing divisions in the Philippines.
Department of Education-6 regional director Mildred Garay the other day said this was contained in the report of the Education For All (EFA) evaluation submitted to the United Nations last September.
Of the 198 schools divisions in the country, 40 were rated as performing poorly and eight of them were in Western Visayas. Seven of them were in Negros Occidental while one was in Roxas City, said Garay.
The seven school divisions cited in the report are those of San Carlos City, Sagay City, Silay City, Bago City, Kabankalan City, Himamaylan City and Negros Occidental province, she said, adding that only two–Bacolod City and La Carlota City–have passed the evaluation.
Other school divisions in Western Visayas that achieved good ratings were Iloilo City and the provinces of Iloilo, Guimaras and Antique, said Garay.
Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. was not happy with the results, Garay said as she explained that the evaluation was based on participation rate, dropout rate, achievement rate and completion rate of pupils or students.
Garay said that, to remedy the problem, the DepEd-6 will conduct an Education Summit from May 2 to 3 at the Bacolod Pavilion Hotel.
