Close to 9K pupils finish crime awareness course

- Jennifer P. Rendon -

ILOILO CITY , Philippines  — Following its inception last year, the "Pulis Ko, Titser Ko" program of the Police Regional Office-6 will have its first batch of graduates, numbering 8,973 Grade 6 pupils from 167 schools in Western Visayas.

PRO-6 director, Chief Supt. Cipriano Querol, Jr., said he was confident that this number would double next school year citing the positive feedback from students, teachers and administrators.

"The program will help fortify the moral foundation of the young students to make them more productive, responsible and law-abiding citizens not only now but also in the future," Querol said.

"Most students rated the program as "outstanding". They also recommended the program to continue next school year," he said.

Querol said the "Pulis Ko, Titser Ko" program was conceptualized during the time of then PRO-6 director Chief Supt. Samuel Pagdilao.

It is a strategic school-based crime awareness project of the PRO-6 and the DepEd-Region 6 where policemen from different police units of the region who were former teachers or education graduates will conduct a 20-to-30-minute lecture to Grade 4 pupils in selected public elementary schools.

The subjects will be on crime prevention awareness and child safety, welfare and development, along with the values of patriotism, nationalism, among others.

Querol said the program also aims to enhance the moral foundation of young students and strengthen their resistance to crime so that they will become productive, responsible, and law-abiding citizens in the future.

Part of the agreement between the PRO6 and Department of Education (DepEd) VI stated that the two agencies will collaborate in formulating a Grade 4 curriculum and teaching methodology to be used in the program implementation.
