BACOLOD CITY , Philippines  - National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Bacolod chief Mamerto Cortez has confirmed reports that he will be transferred to the NBI Central Office.

He said he was ordered to report to the Central Office on April 4, where he will be given a new assignment. "However, I cannot leave my office here until I officially turn this over to the new agent supervisor," he said.

Cortez said NBI national director Magtanggol Gatdula did not specify what his assignment would be me, except that he was "told to handle the Anti-Organized Crime Division."

In NBI, instructions are sometimes given on "the-need-to-know" basis, or in intelligence language, "for your eyes only," said Cortez.

An agent in-charge of NBI- Cebu will replace him, he said, adding that he has been in the Bacolod post for four years and four months now..

"We have a fixed three-year tour of duty in a single assignment … luckily I was able to serve Bacolod and Negros Occidental for more than four years," Cortez said.
