Bacolod bank loses P.7M; employee "gone"

- Jennifer P. Rendon -

CEBU, Philippines - As the old adage goes, flight is a sign of guilt.

Police are now looking for a 27-year-old bank employee after he went "missing" the same time the bank also lost some P774,000.

Bacolod City Police Office director Senior Supt. Ricardo dela Paz said that they are set to file a criminal charge for qualified theft against the employee, also of Bacolod City.

For now, the police are just waiting for the official inventory of the First Community Bank, Inc. along Burgos St., Brgy. Villamonte, Bacolod City.

According to Daisy Bueron, the bank's internal auditor, they conducted a daily cash count last February 25.

It was then that they discovered that the cash box for the transactions made in February 24 lacked P774,000.

The bank immediately reviewed the events that transpired the day before the cash count was made.

Based on CCTV footage, the employee was seen around 4 p.m. of February 24 carrying a plastic envelope while leaving the bank's vault.

From then on, he did not report to the office.

Dela Paz said that they immediately looked for him but failed to locate his whereabouts.

The employee’s family claimed that he has not communicated with them since the incident. — /BRP (FREEMAN)
