Pending performance evaluation: All Negros Occidental police chiefs relieved
BACOLOD CITY, Philippines – All 31 chiefs of police in 12 cities and 19 towns of Negros Occidental will be relieved, effective today, March 1, and replaced by their respective deputies pending evaluation of their performances, according to Sr. Supt. Allan Guisihan, police provincial director.
Police Regional Office-Region 6 director Chief Supt. Cipriano Querol Jr. and Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr had approved the relief of the chiefs of police chiefs and replacement by their deputies, Guisihan said.
Guisihan said there will be no swapping of assignments among the police chiefs because all of them will be reassigned to the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office headquarters for a week while their performances on anti-illegal gambling campaign, among others, are being evaluated.
As soon as the evaluation is finished, those found to have good performance may be assigned back to their previous stations for as long as they are not yet overstaying in their prescribed term.
In case a new police chief would be appointed, Guisihan said he will submit three names for the mayor to choose.
Guisihan was dismayed over the performance of some chiefs of police in the campaign against illegal gambling, and their temporary relief and evaluation were meant to address this matter. He added that young and junior police officers be given a chance to prove their worth by appointing them as new chiefs of police.
The reshuffling of chiefs of police has also been triggered by the re-assignment of some police officers to the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in selected countries of Africa, Asia and Europe, and others.
