PALO, LEYTE, Philippines — The Police Regional Office-Region 8 has set to establish an Environment and Tourist Protection Center (ETPC) in Calamgaman Island in Palompon, Leyte as its way of helping promote tourism in that area.
PRO-8 director, Chief Supt. Arnold Revilla said this was in response to the call of Governor Jericho Petilla for involvement from law enforcement agencies and the private sector in securing tourists in areas that are being developed for tourism purposes.
Revilla said the putting up of the center in Calamgaman island is one way of helping the increasing tourist arrivals in the area by deployment of tourist protection police there.
"This is actually a joint project of the Leyte provincial government and the Department of Tourism, Police personnel detailed to the island would undergo seminars, to be conducted by the Palompon tourism council and environment office, which started Monday, said Revilla.
Police personnel who will be assigned as tourist protection force in the island will also help stop illegal fishing activities there, he said. "Kailangan talaga ang presence ng ating kapolisan dito," he added. — (FREEMAN)
