ILOILO CITY , Philippines  – At least 57 villages in nine towns of Capiz have been struck by flashfloods, stranding passenger vehicles bound for Manila.

Officials of the regional and provincial disaster risk management councils said heavy rains since Saturday dawn lasted for almost two days, causing the floods.

By Sunday afternoon however the water level subsided, but left hundreds of families affected.

The affected villages were 13 in Mambusao town; 11 in Sigma; eight in Panit-an; seven each in Dao and Maayon; five in Cuartero; three in Pontevedra; two in Dumarao; and one in Panay.
