Netizens share photos of solar eclipse taken across the Philippines
MANILA, Philippines - The only solar eclipse to be visible in the Philippines this year was seen today, March 9.
After more than six years, solar eclipse enthusiasts were able to bring out their film strips and specially made glasses to witness the rare astronomic event, which occurs only when the moon passes directly between the earth and the sun.
The eclipse which lasted about three hours starting 7:45 a.m. was only partly visible in the Philippines.
According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), Mindanao areas had a good view of the partial solar eclipse, having an eclipse obscuration of up to 80 percent while the Luzon and the Visayas areas’ eclipse obscuration ranged from 30-60 percent and 60-70 percent, respectively.
