MANILA, Philippines —  Inaaayos na para maisakatuparan ang planong joint patrol operations ng Pilipinas at Estados Unidos sa West Philippine Sea (WPS) bago matapos ang taong 2023.

Ayon kay National Security Council assistant Director General Jonathan Malaya, bagama’t may mga logistical issues pa na dapat ayusin at lutasin bago ito masimulan ay may posibilidad na bago matapos ang taon ay matuloy na ang RP-US joint patrol sa WPS.

“May mga ina-iron out pang mga issues but I don’t think these are insurmountable, I would think before the end of the year”, saad ni Malaya.

Sa isang national summit, inihayag ng mga government officials ang kahalagahan ng WPS at ang benepisyong mai­dudulot nito mula sa mayamang karagatan na nasasaklaw nito.

Nitong buwan ng Mayo, sinabi ni Philippine Ambassador to the United States Manuel “Babe” Romualdez na ang joint patrol sa pagitan ng Manila at Washington sa WPS ay posibleng magsimula sa ikatlong quarter ng taon.

“We’re already at a... I would call continuing discussions on this joint patrol with the United States. I could guess, an estimate would be no later than the third quarter of this year. We should have that in place,”  pahayag ni Romualdez

Matatandaang nagdesisyon ang Pilipinas at ang Estados Unidos na palawakin ang kooperasyon sa maritime security hindi lamang sa pamamagitan ng joint patrols.
