Heavy rains cause LRT-1 power shortage

MANILA, Philippines - Hundreds of commuters were stranded before dawn yesterday after power transformers of the Light Railway Transit Line 1 (LRT-1) bogged down.

“Heavy rains (caused) a short circuit, causing a power shortage from Baclaran to Buendia” and forced the rail line to limit its operations to its Buendia to Roosevelt stations from 5 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., said LRT-1 operations director Rodrigo Bulario.

Also before dawn yesterday, the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 reported that it limited its operation from North EDSA to Shaw Boulevard due to technical problems. The rail line resumed normal operations at past 6 a.m.
