Petecio, Villegas pararangalan sa SMC-PSA Awards Night
MANILA, Philippines — Igagawad kina Pinay boxers Nesthy Petecio at Aira Villegas ang prestihiyosong President’s Award sa 2024 San Miguel Corporation-Philippine Sportswriters Association (SMC-PSA) Awards Night sa Enero 27 sa Manila Hotel.
Nakapag-ambag ng tig-isang tansong medalya sina Petecio at Villegas sa kampanya ng Team Philippines sa 2024 Olympic Games sa Paris, France.
Kasama ang dalawang tanso sa dalawang gintong medalyang nakamit ni gymnast Carlos Yulo sa men’s vault at men’s floor exercise.
Mapapasakamay naman ni Yulo ang 2024 Athlete of the Year award sa programang inihahandog ng ArenaPlus, Cignal at MediaQuest.
Nakasungkit si Petecio ng tanso sa women’s 57kg division, habang may tanso rin si Villegas sa women’s 50 kg class.
“They may have missed the biggest prize in the 2024 Olympics, but nonetheless deserve high accolades with their own bright moments in the Paris Games, providing extra push in the glorious Philippine performance – a great highlight in the country’s centennial year of participation in the Summer Games,” ani PSA President Nelson Beltran na sports editor ng The Philippine Star.
Ito ang ikalawang medalya ni Petecio na humirit ng pilak na medalya noong 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Si Petecio ang bukod tanging Pinoy boxer na nakasungkit ng back-to-back sa Olympics.
Magarbo naman ang debut ni Villegas sa Olympic Games matapos makahirit ng tanso.
