Grospe lumundag ng bagong Philippine record

MANILA, Philippines — Binasag ni national athlete Leonard Grospe ang 18-year-old national record sa men’s high jump para angkinin ang gold medal sa 2023 Philippine National Games kahapon sa Philsports track oval sa Pasig City.

Nilundag ng Mapua University varsity squad member ang bagong national mark na 2.20 meters para ibasura ang 2.17m ng kanyang coach na si Sean Guevara na inilista noong Abril 5, 2005 sa National Open.

“Masayang-masaya ako kasi matagal na na­ming goal na ma-break iyong record ni coach Sean,” sabi ng tubong Dilasag, Aurora na nadiskubre ni Guevarra noong 2019 Central Luzon Regional Athletic Association meet.

Sa swimming pool, nilangoy ni Quendy Fernandez ang kanyang ika­anim na gold medal matapos igiya ang Puerto Prin­cesa City, Palawan team sa panalo sa women’s 18-over 4x50-meter freestyle relay kasama sina Maglia Jave Dignadice, Pearl June Daganio at utol na si Cindy.

Nagposte ang tropa ng bilis na 1:54.43.

May anim na golds at isang silver medal, ang UP Lady Maroon swimming sensation na si Fernandez ang hinirang na most bemedalled athlete sa PNG na inorganisa ng Philippine Sports Commission.

“Super happy po, unexpected po ako kasi katatapos lang ng UAAP at sobrang pagod po,” sabi ng UAAP Season 86 Swimming Most Valuable Player at Rookie of the Year awardee.

Gumawa rin ng eksena si national swimmer Miguel Barreto ng Bulacan sa paghahari sa boys 18-over 400m freestyle sa tiyempong 4:03.18.

Ito ang ikatlong ginto ni Barreto na nauna nang nagwagi sa 200m freestyle at 50m breaststroke.

Sa athletics, itinakbo ni national athlete June Sergio Gobotia ang kanyang ikalawang gold matapos ma­nguna sa men’s 5,000m run sa oras na 15:09.58.
